Please see the attached position descriptions. There is currently one open grade 6 PSA position (GS-6) at the William S. MiddletonMemorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.
The position will be filled utilizing the Veterans Recruitment Authority (VRA).
The position falls under Telephone Care Service. This position will provide screening for the RNs in the call center who in turn facilitate telephone triage for VISN 12.
It is a flexible full time shift position with rotating shift work days, evenings/nights and may include some of the minor holidays and some major holidays.
Dependability is important as we need someone who is able to sit for the majority of the shift and receive calls.
Additional requirements for the position are as follows:
Candidates will be asked to provide important patient care and excellent customer service. The qualifications for this position included 2 selection factors; knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to type 40 WPM (self-certification). The candidates resume should indicate at least 1 year of specialized experience, including but not limited to, switchboard or telephone answering experience, customer service experience and the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; experience using various computer/software applications in relationship to data entry, research, reporting, scheduling and acquiring information.
Initial work schedule is as follows:
1st week pay period – Sun Midnight to 8:00AM
2nd week pay period - Sat & Sun Off
Education is nursing oriented and a medical background is preferred.

- What it provides: VRA allows appointment of eligible Veterans up to the GS-11 or equivalent grade level. Veterans are hired under excepted appointments to positions that are otherwise in the competitive service. After the individual satisfactorily completes 2 years of service, the Veteran must be converted noncompetitively to a career or career-conditional appointment.
- Who is eligible: VRA eligibility applies to the following categories:
- Disabled Veterans;
- Veterans who served on active duty in the Armed Forces during a war declared by Congress, or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized;
- Veterans who, while serving on active duty in the Armed Forces, participated in a military operation for which the Armed Forces Service Medal (AFSM) was awarded; and
- Veterans separated from active duty within the past 3 years.
An individual must meet at least one of these criteria to be considered under the VRA.
