Telephone Care Service - VA-Madison
Good Afternoon-
Please see the attached position descriptions. There is currently one open grade 6 PSA position (GS-6) at the William S. MiddletonMemorial Veterans Hospital in Madison.
The position will be filled utilizing the Veterans Recruitment Authority (VRA).
The position falls under Telephone Care Service. This position will provide screening for the RNs in the call center who in turn facilitate telephone triage for VISN 12.
It is a flexible full time shift position with rotating shift work days, evenings/nights and may include some of the minor holidays and some major holidays.
Dependability is important as we need someone who is able to sit for the majority of the shift and receive calls.
Additional requirements for the position are as follows:
Candidates will be asked to provide important patient care and excellent customer service. The qualifications for this position included 2 selection factors; knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to type 40 WPM (self-certification). The candidates resume should indicate at least 1 year of specialized experience, including but not limited to, switchboard or telephone answering experience, customer service experience and the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; experience using various computer/software applications in relationship to data entry, research, reporting, scheduling and acquiring information.
Initial work schedule is as follows:
1st week pay period – Sun Midnight to 8:00AM
2nd week pay period - Sat & Sun Off
Education is nursing oriented and a medical background is preferred.

#14 POSITION SUMMARY – (Major Goals of the Position)
Under the general supervision of the Building and Grounds Superintendent and with occasional direction
from the Facilities Maintenance Specialist – Advanced lead worker, perform semi-skilled work of a heavy
physical nature related to the mechanical repair and preventative maintenance activities at the State
Building.
#15 GOALS AND WORKER ACTIVITIES
60% A. Maintain building mechanical systems and infrastructure. Review problems and unusual
conditions with lead-worker, or building superintendent when warranted and take work
orders for repair where appropriate and as directed.
A1. Take daily meter readings of utilities servicing the several buildings, and update
electronic data record.
A2. Maintain, service, adjust and repair controls for heating, air conditioning and
ventilating equipment. Clean grilles, screens, filters, dampers and coils.
A3. Conduct regularly scheduled building walk-through inspections with regard to
building conditions to take stock of building equipment condition.
A4. Perform routine preventative maintenance on internal combustion engines,
vehicles, trucks, mowers, and other maintenance and grounds equipment as
required. This includes changing oil, lubrication, tune-ups and minor
adjustments, gas up vehicles, cleaning and washing equipment.
A5. Inspect, maintain, repair or replace sheaves, belts, bearings, and keep
component parts in alignment.
A6. Repair, replace or rebuild couplings, drives, shafts on rotating equipment.
Repair, replace or rebuild pumps, compressors and electric motors.
25% B. Perform preventative maintenance and mechanical work by assisting crafts workers in
electrical, carpentry, heating ventilation and air conditioning work of the State Building.
B1. Work with the steamfitters and other maintenance mechanics in monitoring the high
pressure boilers, air handling units and other equipment. Perform work in sheet
metal fabrication, and iron work and welding.
B2. Assist electrician in pulling new wires. Perform preliminary inspection of various
types of electrical equipment including switches, outlets and cords.
B3. Work with mason and painters in preparation and repair work consisting of

B5. Assist plumber in maintaining plumbing systems by performing preliminary review
of work repair orders and trouble calls.
B6. Work with contractors and vendors in remodeling and construction project process
as circumstance dictates and maintain Building is pristine historically accurate
condition..
B7. Assist with maintenance activities at other bureau and facilities management group
building as necessary to provide coverage when use of leave, makes a coverage
opening at other buildings.
B8. Maintain tools, equipment and spare parts in proper operating condition. Notify
maintenance supervisor of equipment and tools in need of repair or replacement.
15% C. Maintain accurate records of work requests completed and labor hours applied to work
requests using the bureau computerized maintenance management system.
C1. Review assigned work requests in work list daily and prioritize work orders
according to age, importance and convenience and, to the extent reasonable, work
primarily on work listed on work order list.
C2. Accurately enter labor hours applied to individual work orders daily as directed by
management and training.
C3. Accurately update work order status’ daily to reflect work accomplishments; work
orders for which work has been completed mark -work complete; work orders for
which materials have been ordered mark -materials required.
